I recently stayed at the Blue Butterfly Hotel for a short time and had a truly wonderful experience. The hotel's unique location perfectly combines the best of both city and jungle, offering a one-of-a-kind experience. I was impressed by the hotel's commitment to using natural resources for their facilities, such as the fresh water aquifer for drinking water. The friendly and kind atmosphere created by the staff and other guests made my stay incredibly enjoyable. I know that if I return to Puerto Viejo, this is where I'll be staying!
I strongly recommend this hotel.

The hotel is located in a convenient spot, just a short walk from the main street. Guests can enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and beautiful backdrop of the surrounding woodland. The friendly host is knowledgeable about the area and provides helpful insider tips. There is also a communal fridge available for guests to use.
Some previous guests have mentioned that the cleanliness of the property could be improved, with a need for a wash-down and clean-up. It would also be beneficial to have more bathrooms and access to cooking facilities or at least a kettle for making coffee.

The room was comfortable and had views of the garden, which was nice. The strong wifi was a plus, especially for staying connected with friends and family back home. The welcome drinks offered on arrival were a pleasant surprise.
The atmosphere at the hostel was strange and not very welcoming. The constant reminders to whisper from 10pm to 9am felt excessive and patronizing.

The hotel is located in a peaceful area, away from the hustle and bustle of the main town. Guests can enjoy waking up to beautiful views of the surrounding plants and flowers from their comfy beds. The place is kept very clean and the volunteers are super nice.
Some guests have mentioned that the bed and mosquito nets were getting a bit old.

The property offers a variety of exciting tours and activities, such as snorkeling, surfing, and chocolate making. The hotel is surrounded by fragrant flowers and is located close to shops, restaurants, and nightclubs. The view of the crashing waves from the mountain top is breathtaking.
Shame I couldn't rent a personal sloth to keep me company in my room.

I had such a wonderful experience at the Blue Butterfly! The hotel has a great energy and is filled with friendly travelers. The hammocks and hot showers were perfect for relaxation. Venetia and Cris, the owners, were incredibly accommodating and went out of their way to make my stay enjoyable. The location was ideal, being close enough to the town but far enough for a peaceful sleep. I felt like I was at a home away from home and met some amazing people during my stay. The Blue Butterfly truly provided a true Costa Rican experience. I highly recommend this hotel!
